The County utilizes commodity or service codes as a coding taxonomy to classify the products and services we procure. Through uniform coding and other management mechanisms, commodity codes provide control over procurement processes, making them more organized and more efficient. They are also an important tool for the identification of suppliers’ products and services. You will enter commodity codes matching the goods and services you offer in Periscope.
The County utilizes both National Institute of Governmental Purchasing (NIGP) Code and United Nations Standard Products and Services Code (UNSPC) for classification of its products and services, to manage suppliers, and ensure adequate competition as well as outreach to increase diversity across spend areas, thereby reducing overall procurement risk by identifying spend areas where competition is weak and supplier recruitment is needed.
